Key Features

Reduced Friction, Lower Reciprocating Weight

  • The key to this new technical update focuses on two main goals: reducing friction losses and lowering alternating weights. Simply put, low-friction parts include sintered valve guides, DLC-treated cam followers, and low-friction/high-capacity crankshaft bearings, which cut internal losses by almost 5 percent. This isn’t just about power—these changes also improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. They make the engine more reliable too.
  • The 998cc four-cylinder engine (79mm bore, 50.9mm stroke) can rev past 13,000 rpm. The new DLC-treated inverted-cup cam followers offer a special benefit because this engine uses radially placed valves that need conical cam profiles and contact areas.

MV’s engineering team incorporated all the advancements from their three-cylinder models into the Brutale 1000 RR.

  • About those valves: They’re made of titanium, just like the engine’s connecting rods. This leads to the second part of the Brutale’s internal upgrades—reducing moving-mass inertia wherever possible. This improves reliability and cuts down vibration, especially at high rpm. New cam timing boosts the torque curve, especially in the midrange, and the Brutale no longer needs the variable-height throttle bodies used before.
  • The new Brutale has 50mm Mikuni throttle bodies with two injectors per cylinder. Peak torque is a strong 86 pound-feet at 11,000 rpm, with a 208 hp peak at 13,000 rpm. The compression ratio is a solid 13.4:1. The exhaust system is new, with a 4-into-1-into-4 design, and the Brutale’s high-capacity catalytic converter makes the bike fully Euro 5 compliant with room to spare.
  • The transmission has been upgraded for better durability and more precise shifting, and it includes a stronger clutch. The electronically assisted gearbox has a new sensor that makes shifting very fast, accurate, and smooth.
  • The MV Agusta Brutale 1000 RR’s chassis didn’t need much improvement, so there are no major changes. The frame combines a steel-tube trellis structure with large aluminum plates that connect to the rear engine mounts and support the single-sided cast-aluminum swingarm’s pivot. The wheelbase is a compact 56.3 inches, and the steering geometry is clearly race-inspired with a steep 23.5-degree angle, 30mm offset, and 3.9 inches of trail with the usual 120/70-17 front tire. Pirelli Diablo Supercorsas are fitted on both the front and rear.

Enhanced Brakes, Improved Suspension, Upgraded Electronics

  • While the frame remains the same, there are some improvements to the suspension. The 43mm Öhlins NIX EC fork and EC TTX shock absorber now have full electronic control. The brakes are also impressive: The all-Brembo system includes twin 320mm rotors at the front with Stylema four-piston calipers, and a 220mm rear rotor paired with a two-piston caliper.
  • Continental’s latest MK 100 ABS manages those brakes, and features cornering modulation and rear-wheel lift mitigation. A new six-axis IMU and a full suite of electronic rider aids (traction control, wheelie control, cruise control) helps fully exploit the Brutale’s potential. The new 5.5-inch instrument screen also lets you use the MV Ride app on your smartphone to adjust personal settings, connect with other riders, and display maps on the navigation system.
  • The Brutale has always been MV’s aptly named entry into what the company calls the extreme hypernaked class. Now, more than ever, it offers brutal performance in a refined package. It’s a much anticipated turnaround from a few years ago, and one any fan of high-performance motorcycles should be happy to see.
